Waxahachie/ Timberview Player Breakdown

Mansfield - Friday night, Waxahachie stunned Timberview with a 76-42 win. The game was tied at 12 after the first quarter, but then Waxahachie outscored Timberview 64-30.

TexasHoops.com analyst Blue Zertuche breaks down seven prospects from the game.

WAXAHACHIE

Montre Gibson - Only a junior, Gibson has the physical makeup of a college player and he uses his frame to overpower his opponents. Gibson was able to bully his way to the basket against the Timberview guards who were much taller and athletic. He also played hard on the defensive side of the ball and caused turnovers.

Qua Grant - Grant is an interesting prospect as he is one of those players that doesn't necessarily have a position, but he needs to be out on the floor. During Friday's game, Grant played where he was needed and was very effective as a guard, defender and ball handler. Finishing the game with 19 points and as the team's second leading scorer of the night, Grant was able to penetrate to get to the rim, pressured the ball to get easy buckets in transitions and hit a few jumpers.

Xavier Thompson - A surprise find on the court was Thompson who lit it up from behind the arc for five 3-pointers. Thompson hit everything, including a fadeaway three from the corner. He shot the ball with confidence and drove to the basket for a few lay-ins and showed springs off the floor once he entered the lane. Overall, Thompson was an intriguing talent Friday night.

Larry Wise - Arizona State was on hand to watch Wise and the guard had a solid performance. Wise was the fourth Waxahachie player to reach double figures in the victory and totaled 11 points. He displayed a combination of scoring and being a distributor dishing at least three assists.

TIMBERVIEW

Isaac Likekele - Likekele was held to only 8 points, but it's the little things that he does on the court that makes him appealing. Likekele won't be known for being the best athlete on the floor, but he gets the job done in so many other ways. He rebounds, defends, and finds his open teammates. Against Waxahachie, Likekele forced his way to score at the rim and did his best on the glass grabbing five rebounds.

Tim Johnson - Johnson was held to only two field goals and they both came in the first quarter. He added four made free-throws and a few rebounds and assists.

Chris Mullins - The only Timberview player to sniff double-digits in scoring was Mullins who snuck out of the game with 11 points. Mullins hit 5-out-7 free-throws and the rest of his points came off drives. To his credit, Mullins left a good impression on me as he handled the Waxahachie 1-3-1 press, seeing over defenders and making crisp passes. He made his case for being a point guard and he has a chance to develop into that position. I can't really say that I have given Mullins the nod in the past but he showed flashes. If he does turn out to develop at the PG spot, Mullins will have many advantages because of his height and length. To be continued.
