Victor Bailey went back and forth in his mind trying to figure out what school he liked the best prior to any visits. Over the past several weeks, Bailey was able to take official visits to Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Tulsa, and Oregon.
After a trip this past weekend to Eugene, Oregon and 48 hours to talk through things with his parents, Bailey chose the Ducks.
"My family and I talk through the process of every detail and Oregon was on top," said Bailey of his decision. "Everything from the Pac-12 Conference, to the coaching staff and style of play all fit who I was the best."
Bailey asset the guard situation and knew that playing time would be available to him if he competes.
"Last year Dillon Brooks (junior) and Tyler Dorsey (sophomore) both put their names in for the NBA last year but came back. It looks like they will probably do the same at the end of the season, so that leaves playing time at the guard spot."
At 6-foot-4, Bailey, a Round Rock McNeil high school standout plays a variety of roles for the team, and he feels at Oregon he will do the same.
"[Oregon staff] wants me to go out and defend and score," said Bailey. "There is a chance in the future that I will play the point guard position, but for now, I just need to go and do the things that I am asked to do. I will move around in the offense, and do more scoring."
Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and Tulsa would have been great for Bailey's family in terms of location, but the former RM5 (EYBL) member says he loves the level of competition in the Pac-12.
"The talent level that is in the Pac-12 is among the best in the country. The top two players in the nation have committed to play in the conference. DeAndre Ayton is going to Arizona and Michael Porter is going to Washington. Those are two great players and I want to compete against the best."
