Umoja Gibson emerges as top unsigned point guard in Texas

After a big weekend, one would hope that Waco University’s point guard Umoja Gibson will not only pick up more interest but offers.

Currently, the 6-foot talented prospect has a total of one offer, Texas State. Gibson visited the Bobcats officially in the fall but did not commit.

Gibson is looking for what most athletes at this time of the year are looking for, the highest possible league or program they can attract and who is willing to offer.

“I want options,” said Gibson. “I feel that I have been playing well and that I get my teammates involved.”

At the Cedar Hill Tourney, Gibson had games of 30 points, and an 18 point 18 assists outburst.

“Once I feel that I have established a routine of getting my teammates involved I begin to feel more comfortable scoring.”

Gibson plays fast, but he plays under control and sees the floor. He does an excellent job of keeping the defense, especially his defender off balance because of his threat to penetrate and score. Gibson gets the defense to pinch in once he enters the paint which sets up shots for his guards out on the perimeter. There were a handful of times that Gibson found open teammates in the corners to hit perimeter shots.

Point guards are few, but Gibson is one player that may have a high ceiling. He’s long, quick and skilled, with the ability not just to score at the rim, but to hit the three or the pull up, as he demonstrated over the weekend.
