Texas Hoops Analysis: Drew Timme - Can he be the No.1 prospect in 2019?

Looking through the class of 2019, there is a ton of talent. Where we stand today, most would lean towards Charles Bassey of San Antonio St Anthony's of being the No.1 prospect, but who will challenge for "Best in Class"?

The class is rich with talented guards, and on any given day those prospects are interchangeable.

However, one prospect that TexasHoops.com Analyst Blue Zertuche feels will be in the mix fighting for a top spot is Drew Timme. The 6-foot-9 big man from JJ Richardson Pearce is inching his way to the top of the 2019 class and has exhibited many top level tools in the paint. He has power, strength, skills in and out of the lane, and plays with an understanding of a true back to the basket post player.

Below is the breakdown of Timme with clips.

DEFENSE

Timme holds his ground on the block and will defend outside the paint. He is reliable under the basket and allows for his teammates to take some chances defensively. Timme isn't an explosive athlete but gets off the ground quickly and defends the rim. He is a shot blocker and gets on the glass. He fights for position and shows patience and timing as a shot blocker. Many times you will see Timme get the ball up court to his guards and will be rewarded on the other end.

OFFENSE

Offensively Timme uses his body to create space and has shown some advanced moves off the block feeling his way around defenders. He is strong and will battle through contact to finish in the paint. He has a soft touch around the rim and has shown a high-level skill set. He is more than a throwback post player as he can get out and run the floor and finish on the break. Timme also uses a face-up game stepping 15-feet or more away from the basket.
