Stanley Umude, San Antonio standout ready to commit?

One name in the Alamo City who's recruitment is just starting to heat up is San Antonio Warren's standout swingman Stanley Umude. Umude, who plied his trade for Next Level Raiders during the summer, is up to four D1 offers and is looking to make a commitment soon. After stellar performances all day in the GASO Fall Classic, Umude spoke with TexasHoops.com's Lyndon Cook about his upcoming decision.

"I feel really good about the preseason," Umude said. "I'm getting better and the team's getting better and my mind is set on winning a district championship this year."

Umude, the No.58 prospect in the class of 2017, enters into his senior season with four offers from the likes of Abilene Christian, Incarnate Word, New Hampshire, and South Dakota. Umude has been on campus in Abilene and recently returned from a visit to South Dakota, and had this to say about his experiences:

"The visit (to South Dakota) went well, better than I expected honestly. The team was impressive and only graduating one senior so I was really pleased with what I saw there."

Umude was also very complimentary of his trip to Abilene Christian, of which he said: "I visited (ACU) in September and I liked its focus on academics along with basketball. All in all, it's a good school too."

"I'm looking for a school with good academics with a program with a lot of team chemistry," Umude said of his options. "I'd like to go somewhere that I can be an impact freshman and play right away, but not at a program that is in the process of rebuilding."

Umude plans to visit New Hampshire on Tuesday (Oct. 18) and after that, he says, he will have a decision to make.

"After the New Hampshire visit, I'm gonna take a week to think over my decision and try to make a decision," Umude revealed. "If I'm not satisfied with what I see or not comfortable making a decision, I'm not afraid to wait it out to the spring. I'll always bet on myself when it comes to stuff like that."

Umude, in terms of pure scoring ability, is up there with the best in the class. The six-foot-3 combo guard is agile on the drive and money from the outside. When Umude gets hot, his pull up game is near unguardable. He has range off the dribble and is still a knock down shooter with his feet set. Umude uses his frame well to bully smaller guards into getting the shot he wants. He also has the springs to go up and throw down a dunk or snatch a board.

"(Coaches) like my versatility and my height for being a guard, and how I give them different options on where they can play me. They also like the way I can shoot it at a high rate," Umude said of the feedback he's been receiving. "The things they say I need work on is my motor and that I need to be playing hard at all times. They'd also like to see me being more active on the defensive end."

Whether or not Umude commits early or waits it out to the spring, wherever he ends up will be getting a real weapon at the next level.
