After a busy weekend of taking in some high level competition in San Antonio, TexasHoops.com analyst Lyndon Cook breaks down his tournament standouts with in-depth player analysis.

All-Tournament Performers

Pierce Hellums - Concordia Lutheran - 2019

Hellums served as a vital part of the Concordia team that took home top prize at the SACS Adidas Tip Off. The junior guard knows when to pick his spots and shoots the ball with confidence and deep range. He showed he can get to the hoop off the bounce and finish, and his free throw shooting was also impressive, going 9-for-9 in the championship game against Bishop Lynch. Hellums already has an offer from Sam Houston, but TexasHoops staff expects more D1 programs to add to that list before next summer.

Yosani Clay - Concordia Lutheran - 2018

Clay might not be the marquee name on Concordia’s team, but it was him they turned to in crunch time in the championship game and it paid dividends for the Crusaders. Down a point with 30 seconds to go, Concordia sprung Clay to the corner to knock down a trey that would end up being the difference in the game. That highlight capped an impressive showing at the guard spot where Clay hit 4 threes and looked to be in attack mode throughout. High motor guard who can get the job done.

Jacari Sanders - San Antonio Brennan - 2019

Sanders has been on the TexasHoops radar for a while now, but this weekend he proved that he is deserving of a higher ranking than the No.91 slot he currently occupies. Sanders has a pull-up game that verges on elite at the high school level and displayed an extended range out past the 3-point line. His teammates look to him to make plays when the going gets tough and this weekend especially he delivered. A need to know name in San Antonio this season.

Quentin Coleman - San Antonio Stevens - 2018

Coleman has been featured on TexasHoops plenty of times this year and it’s not hard to see why. The standout point guard does just about everything he can for his team whenever he’s on the floor. He forces turnovers, racks up plenty of assists, and is relentless in the open court. He plays like a leader. Most of his interest is at the junior college level right now, but it wouldn’t be surprising if D1/D2 programs came back with interest to try to get Coleman to sign in the spring.

Charles Henderson - San Antonio MacArthur - 2018

Henderson started quietly in the first quarter of the Northside/North East Tournament championship game, but rattled off 13 in a row for Mac as part of the initial burst that led them to an assured title win. Henderson uses his big frame to bully smaller guards into getting to the hoop and shot the ball well all weekend. Henderson is a grinder who makes winning plays and doesn’t bother with flashy play. A guard with good size who must be accounted for this season.

Nate Levine - San Antonio MacArthur - 2018

Levine proved again that he’s one of the city’s most naturally gifted scorers. Back-to-back threes opened up the championship game for Mac, and a pair of impressive and-ones helped put the game away in the second half. Levine plays with a certain swagger that makes him a tough matchup for defenders. His confidence allows him to take (and make) shots most other players would shy away from. Expect his recruiting to heat up as the season goes along.

Alex Conrad - Central Catholic - 2018

Conrad is a crafty big man with a soft touch around the hoop. A lefty, Conrad is adept at using a spin move with his back to the basket to beat defenders for a layup. A good passer and showed range out to 15-feet, he was a major factor in Central Catholic’s run to the Northside/North East title game. Very fundamentally sound player who can hurt other teams just by doing the simple things really well.

Juan Reyna - Antonian Prep - 2021

The freshman class at Antonian looks to be something special, and one of the chief contributors to that class is 2021 Juan Reyna. Reyna is a do it all combo guard who plays like a seasoned upperclassman rather than a freshman playing in his first few games at the varsity level. Reyna is a dogged defender who will get up into much older players and plays with an attitude. His overall skill level was something to behold for a player that young. His performances this weekend put the rest of the city on notice that age and experience aren’t everything.

Mason Roberts - Kerrville Tivy - 2019

A towering presence who seals well, Roberts dominated in both games TexasHoops staff watched him play. The Tivy big man is already adept at sealing as part of a high-low look and can finish at the rim with either hand. Roberts is the focal point of the Antlers’ offense in the halfcourt, and came up with the goods over the weekend by averaging 26 points per game over the two games TexasHoops staff attended.
