The San Antonio GASO finished up over the weekend with several teams claiming titles. TexasHoops.com's Lyndon Cook breaks down which teams came out on top in their brackets from a loaded field of top-tier talent.

NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BRACKET TITLE GAMES

Urban ASAK Elite 77 TJ Ford Elite Houston 72 F/OT

Urban ASAK capped off a great team showing over the weekend with a balanced effort to knock off TJ Ford Houston in overtime. Brock Cunningham (Westlake 2018) was as dangerous as ever with an efficient 18 points but fouled out before regulation ended. His teammates came up big down the stretch and in the extra period, with GASO "New Kid on the Block" Caleb Golden (Cedar Ridge 2020) adding 17 and Darius McBride (Vista Ridge 2019) tallying 16.

Terrell Wilson (FB Marshall 2018) nearly delivered TJ Ford Houston a second GASO title in as many tournaments, scoring 19. Kelyn Adams (Pearland 2017) and Javen Hedgeman (Pearland 2017) combined for 33, but ultimately TJ Ford Houston came up just short in the overtime period.

YIIS/Texas Future 17U 68 PHA Elite 58

Charles Bassey (St. Anthony 2019) was simply too much for PHA Elite to contain, scoring a game high 21-points from all over the court as Texas Future 17U captured the hardware for their bracket. Bassey is much more of a skilled basketball player than his imposing six-foot-11 frame lets on and was good from behind the arc on 3 separate occasions. 5A state championship game MVP Chris Mullins (Mansfield Timberview 2018) and Larry Wise (Waxahachie 2018) had 9 apiece in the win.

PHA Elite kept the contest tight for the first half, only trailing by 3 at the break before Texas Future gave themselves some breathing room in the second. The Converse Judson 2018 trio of Questyn Luckey, Darren Brown, and Noah Blair had 29 between them in the loss.

SA Elite BC 63 Prince Elite 56

Leo Jimenez (Jay 2017) caught fire and hit 6 threes in this one, as his SA Elite squad took home their bracket's title over Prince Elite. Jimenez finished with 20 on the day, with teammates Anthony Brooks-Martinez (Wagner 2017) and Kash Hutt (Gervin Academy 2018) scoring 12 and 10 respectively.

Prince Elite started the game slow, falling behind by 14 at the half and were unable to pull off a comeback. Six-foot-5 Trivero Wilson (Steele 2018) looks to be an exciting prospect and scored 16 in the loss. Joshua Rainey (Canyon 2019) added 14

Texas Impact and 3D Empire were scheduled to face each other in their bracket for an NBA championship. The two Dallas metroplex teams chose to call it a weekend as both they both had a long trek home from San Antonio.

The teams were co-champions and stood side by side for their photo.

San Antonio GATA

This has always been San Antonio GATA's weekend as they took home their fourth consecutive title in as many years in the San Antonio GASO. The GATA team have been able to stay together over the years with very few personal changes. The San Antonio-based squad now are owners of an NBA title to go along with their 8th grade, NIT, and NCAA hardware. GATA had the late tip versus Texas Hardwork, but due to travel, Hardwork had to step away from the final NBA championship game.

NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

Texas Elite Rec N Crew 84 SA Lightning 67

Nate Floyd (A&M Consolidated 2020) powered Rec N Crew past SA Lightning to clinch the NCAA bracket championship with a masterful 25 point performance. Floyd and teammate Jordan Gray (A&M Consolidated 2019) each hit 4 threes in the game, with Gray scoring all of his 18 points in the second half.

Rec N Crew ran out to a 14 point lead at half and did not look back in the second half, though SA Lightning kept competing and trying to get the game down to a manageable deficit. DJ Rush (Steele 2018) tallied 12 for Lightning, while Seth Tiemeyer (Judson 2018) and Tyrese Rodger (Johnson 2018) scored 10 each.

8th GRADE CHAMPIONSHIP

Texas Hardwork 2022 54 San Antonio Hustlers 48

Texas Hardwork 2022 are a 7th-grade team who averaged over 66 points in each of their four victories which included a six-point win over the Hustlers.

7TH GRADE CHAMPIONSHIP

Athletic Elite 60 RL9 13U 57

Athletic Elite held on to win a close one, edging RL9 13U for the 7th grade title. Athletic Elite got points from every position in the first half as they doubled RL9's score in the first half, leading 34-17 at the break. RL9 used big second halves from 2022's Jaleen Goodman and Aerik Holcombe (combining for 41 in the game) to fight their way back into the game, and nearly pulled off the comeback.
