Round Rock GASO Game Faces and New Kids on the Block

Round Rock -- TexasHoops/GASO Analyst Blue Zertuche breaks down some of the players he watched on Saturday during pool play.

Caleb Asberry (Texas Elite GATA/Pflugerville) was feeling it from the perimeter against Prince Elite, finishing with 17 points which included three three-pointers. Asberry was hitting shots from the corner and breaking free from his defenders to knock in the 15-footer.

Michael Bradley (SABO Gold/San Antonio Cornerstone) is one of those prospects that continues to grow on me. He is a skilled guard that sneaks by defenders and makes buckets. Bradley has shown that he can be a crafty scorer once he enters the paint moving from east to west with the ball in his hands. As a ball handler, Bradley can handle pressure and make point guard decisions.

Greg Brown (Dallas Seawolves/Vandergrift) made a guest appearance at the GASO, and the elite sophomore-to-be did as expected. Brown nailed three-pointers and hit soft jumpers, he was aggressive in his pursuit of 28 points versus West Texas Elite and scored with ease around the rim. His long frame and reach allowed him to rebound over his opponents.

Sayvon Frye (YIIS Texas Future/San Antonio Marshall) overwhelmed his opponent, Urban ASAK Gold as he headed to the basket to score. An active framed wing, Frye looked to put the ball on the floor and score heading to the basket. He watched for the gaps to open up in the defense and finished through contact.

Nate Levine (UC Hoops/San Antonio MacArthur) is one of those players who is fun to watch because you never know when another game of 30-plus is coming. Levine gives himself room on the perimeter, and he will take his shots when he is open. He isn't just a catch and shoot scorer, he will get out in front of the defense and pull up for jumpers or take the ball to the basket for easy lay-ins. Levine did hit 32 against STAT Elite.

Jayden Martinez (Urban ASAK/Cibolo Steele) has been one of the hottest players on the GASO Circuit, and he has proven that production comes with opportunities. Martinez is an energetic forward who scores inside and out. Martinez will nail the three when opponents leave him open, and he makes things happen off the dribble. The spring/summer circuit has allowed for Martinez to have more touches and showcase his ability to be a versatile player on the perimeter. Martinez is a prospect that will get you double digits in scoring or in rebounding. Martinez has not shown any signs of slowing down.

Elijah Moleon (Urban ASAK/Killeen Ellison) is currently the No.99 ranked player in the state and the 6-foot-7 big man put together a nice showing in his first game versus the Bruins. In a 69-39 win for Urban ASAK, Moleon worked the middle of the paint and played with his back to the basket. He is trimming down and looked lighter on his feet. He used quick spin moves to drop the ball in around the bucket, and he attacked whether to grab a rebound or score. On the defensive side of the ball, Moleon altered and even blocked a few shots along with his rebounding.

Micah Peavy (Texas Hardwork 16s/Dekaney) drove his way to 17 points in a 3-point loss to Urban ASAK. Peavy is among the nationally elite and his game was on display at GASO. Peavy was smooth coming off the dribble and played with bounce knocking in mid-range jumpers. He scores in space and recognizes what the defense gives him.

Jahmuis Ramsey (Texas Hardwork 16/Mansfield Summit) played as if he had roller skates on the court as he effortlessly floated to the rim after breaking down defenders. Ramsey made scoop shots, had explosive finishes, and sprinkled in jumpers. What is also impressive is his court vision and playmaking ability as a passer. In two games Saturday, Ramsey scored 19 versus the Corpus Christi Bruins and added 22 more against Urban ASAK.

Brandon Buerk (Corpus Christi Bruins/Gregory-Portland) came alive against Team Hardwork as he sank four three-pointers in defeat for the Bruins. Buerk did a good job of moving around the perimeter to find open real estate. Buerk has shown in previous games that he can be a threat, and he finally got over the hump with his performance. The Bruins are always a tough out, and Buerk gives them another weapon.

Troy Higgins (Prince Elite/Cibolo Steele) caught the eye of TexasHoops/GASO staff by playing with a good motor while carrying some of the scoring load. Higgins is fast in the open court and took contact on his way to the rim. Higgins added a soft touch on his 12-footer and even hit a couple of threes.

Avery Theus (SABO Gold/San Antonio Brandeis) may not look like much, but the SABO prospect sure knows how to score. A thicker guard, Theus uses his body to push off his opponents to create separation and bank shots in. He is always around the ball and finds himself open from behind the arc where he will hit an open three.

Jordan Urbina (STX Hoopsters/Los Fresnos) started off on fire in his pool game versus UC Hoops scoring 21 in STX's 60-55 win. Urbina hit shots from the mid-range area of the court and extended his game beyond the three-point line.
