Texas Hoops Analysis: Reggie Oliver is a guard that has a knack for the basket and score. He scores from all over the court knocking down threes and using his bulldog body to finish through contact. He finished the day against Hill, 10-for-17 FG, 6-for-8 three-pointers, 5-for-6 FT, five rebounds, four assists and one steal.
Head Coach Scott Raines post-game comments:
"Hill is a good team, and I feel that we matched up with them well. We have trouble with teams with bigger players down low, so I felt that this was a good game to come back from break with. I think the fans enjoyed it, and they saw 32 made three-pointers."
"We didn't finish off the first semester great, so it was important to come out and play well after a great week of practice."
Texas Hoops Analysis: Dating back to last season, after watching Randy Haynes with New Mexico, it was clear that he would be a player at the next level. The Old Dominion signee was the game leading scorer with 21 points. He has a lean basketball frame and is a nice athlete. Haynes added seven rebounds in the Thunderbirds win.
Head Coach Brian Lohrey post-game comments:
"It's great coming here [Brownwood] and playing a quality opponent, and I think it is important to get your team going again and compete after a long break."
"We had to fight through some bad weather situations and players not being able to make it back to campus on time because of the circumstances. We only had one practice with everyone there, so it was great for everyone to come together and start the second half of the season off right."
Texas Hoops Analysis: Indiana transfer Devin Davis took over the game against McLennan by rattling in 4-out-5 three-pointers and making 14-out-19 free-throws. Davis is tough and is a bull inside the paint when he goes to a rebound or to score.
Head Coach Tra Arnold post-game comments:
"We came into today's game with guys injured. We have had some hard practices it was good to bring that toughness from practice to the court in a game. We made some big plays down the stretch and there were plenty of guys that stepped up for us."
Texas Hoops Analysis: If being named the player of the game wasn't enough, add that Jordan Geist hit the game-winner (video below). The combo guard was fast up the court and was savvy when he had the ball in his hands. Geist looks to score and likes to get his feet set. He has good size and stroke.
Head Coach Billy Gillispie post-game comments:
"We made a lot of mistakes, but we came back and made some big plays, and you like to see that since we are a bunch of freshmen."
"We intended to get the ball to [Jordan] and we did. It wasn't coaching, it was simply a good player making a good play."
Texas Hoops Analysis: D.J. Thorpe has always been known for his slashing ability, but Sunday night the sophomore took a different approach sinking 4-out-5 three-pointers. Thorpe still used his athleticism to get to the rim and even had a highlight dunk.
Head Coach Larren Silver post-game comments:
"Where we struggle the most is our free-throws, but tonight we shot 74%, and that helped us. In our last four games on the road we missed 55 free-throws, so coming here and making 14-out-19 was a big-time difference for our team, and we won because of it."
