The Pearland Oilers high school wing Javonne Lowery has made a commitment to be part of the Louisiana Lafayette team after committing to head coach Bob Marlin Wednesday. Lowery is the No.30 ranked player in the state (according to TexasHoops.com Pre-Season Rankings) and has always been considered by the TexasHoops/GASO staff as one of the best of the class of 2019.

Lowery commits to a program that has won 113 games since the 2013-14 season and will be ranked as one of the favorites to win the Sun Belt Conference in 2019. Lowery likes the success that the Ragin Cajuns have had and he sees that the success of the program is from the connection that coach Marlin makes with his players on and off the floor.

“It is totally a family atmosphere and that’s a big reason why I committed to [Lafayette]. Coach Marlin takes care of his players and makes them a priority. He is well connected in the basketball world and knows a lot of people who will help with a career outside of basketball as well as getting to the next level. I love coach Marlin as a coach and how you can talk about anything with him.”

At 6-foot-4, Lowery is athletic and can take his offense to the basket or drain the three. He is quick to the hole and he says that his game translates to the offensive system that the Cajuns have in place.

“Coach Marlin lets his players shoot and run the floor, and those are two things that I can do well on the court,” added Lowery. “Everyone can play their own game if we as players buy into the defensive side of the ball and always apply pressure.”

Lowery held offers from Arkansas Little Rock, Sam Houston State, and Texas State. Heading into his junior season, Lowery received his first two offers from Rice and Houston. Lowery had visited the Louisiana Lafayette campus the weekend of October 13 and prior to that visit he was on the campus of Texas State.

“I feel that most of my offers came from the Sun Belt so it only made sense to commit to the one team that I think will stay at the top.”

To finish things up, Lowery discussed his upcoming senior season.

“I believe that we have a chance to do big things at Pearland. We don’t have a traditional big in the middle, but we are fast, push the ball and play hard. We will be in the mix and our chemistry as a team is great going into the season.”
