A member of a talented Texas Titans squad in the spring and summer, Coles proved to be a prospect that needs to be among the top players in the state and towards the top of college programs list across the state and nation.
• Coles has two offers, and several programs showing interest.
• Coles is the starting Forward/Post on a Denton Guyer team who will be 6A Preseason No.1.
• Coles is pushing for a Top 10 ranking in the state when TexasHoops.com releases the Preseason 2020 Rankings
The Guyer standout talks about how things went during his season with the Titans.
“It was great to play for [the Titans]. I got to show off a lot of my skills and show the college coaches I can handle the ball and defend different positions at a high level. Overall I thought the summer went well.”
The skill set of Coles grabbed the attention of Virginia, Butler, Tulsa, Purdue, Texas Tech, and a few others, along with offers from North Texas and SMU.
Recruitment is going great for the junior to be, but his focus is on the new school year and making it to state.
Last season, Denton Guyer won 38 games and their run to San Antonio was stopped short by a 4-point loss to the eventual state champs, Allen High School.
“[Me and my teammates] are talking about having that [state] ring on our finger at the end of the year. “We have talked about our mental toughness and approaching the game always ready. We can’t take any team lightly. Also stepping our defense and rebounding. We lost a lot of guys, so defending and rebounding is key for us to win.”
Coles plays alongside senior point guard, De'Vion Harmon (Oklahoma commit) and fellow forward Jalen Wilson (Michigan commit).
Coles concludes that his game is coming together and knows that his hard work will pay off.
"I think I’m in a great spot and as long as continue to work hard and get my body right, I can contribute to my team in a great way, and I see my future being set.
"I also feel that I can do a lot of things on the court like rebound, push and pass, and also score at will."
TexasHoops.com Analysis
Coles is a versatile forward with size and top-level skill. He has great hands to go along with footwork and court vision to get the ball up the court. He is very impressive with the ball in his hands in open space and can drill the ball to his teammates or make soft passes to players slashing their way to the bucket. Coles can play outside on the perimeter and plays several roles as a stretch four. He can catch and shoot, play off a high ball screen or set himself up for a shot off a pick and pop play. Coles will also dive down to the block and work his way around defenders to score in the paint.
