The Great American Shoot-Out is back on the road this weekend, setting up shop in Houston to take in the best talent H-Town has to offer. TexasHoops.com's Lyndon Cook is clocking in to bring you highlights from all the GASO action.

Texas Elite-Herb 46 Houston Hoops 17's 40 F/OT

Chris Green (Sam Houston 2019) poured in 18 points to lead Texas Elite to a tight overtime win over Houston Hoops 17's in the opening game of the Houston Great American Shoot-Out. The game went by remarkably fast, with only 20 fouls called in the entire contest. With the scores knotted at 39 at the end of regulation, Texas Elite would go on a 7-1 run in the extra time period to seal the pool play win. While Green would get most of the plaudits as leading scorer for Texas Elite, it would downplay the great effort on the defensive end against a talented offense in Houston Hoops. Jackson Moffatt (Magnolia 2018) paced Hoops with a balanced 15-point game

RL9 17U Elite 64 Shooting Stars Red 17U 53

RL9 Elite picked up where they left off after a strong showing in the Bryan/College Station GASO with a comfortable 11-point win over Shooting Stars Red. After a very even and hotly contested first half, RL9 Elite's Nygal Russell and Terrion Miller turned it on to boost their team to victory. The duo combined to go for 22, with Jevon Burton (Porter 2018) scoring 9 as well. Shooting Stars Red were kept in the game at times by the play of Emmanuel White (Morton Ranch 2018), who finished with a game high 17 points. Kristian Sjolund (Katy Tompkins 2018) was efficient from the floor in a 12-point outing.

Basketball University 16U Gold 80 UC Hoops Gold 71

Basketball University's 16U team showed yet again that they can punch above their age group and knock off older teams with a 9-point win over Uncommon Hoops Gold. LJ Cryer (Morton Ranch 2020) continued to make his case to be a top prospect in the 2020 recruiting class with a masterful display at the point, while Pierce Hellums (Concordia Lutheran 2019) did most of his damage from deep. With Hellums and Cryer controlling the backcourt, Marcus Stephens (Morton Ranch 2019) and Javonne Lowery (Pearland 2019) got out in transition to do the bulk of the scoring, going for 16 a piece. UC Hoops trailed by as many as 29 in this one, but a 23-point outburst from Nate Levine (MacArthur 2018) got this one back to a competitive margin.

Texas D1 Houston 63 The BluePrint 5 62

Gabe Bazile (Atascocita 2018) and Alex Dehoyos (Friendswood 2018) both scored 15 as Texas D1 Houston scraped past The BluePrint 5 in a 1-point game. Dehoyos especially was impressive, hitting 3 threes down the stretch as The BluePrint was looking to make a run. Luke Pluymen (Austin Westlake 2018) was his normal assured self at the guard spot, coming up with 11 in the win. Caleb Jordan (Midlothian 2018) showed up in a big way for the BluePrint, scoring a game high 19 points to go with 12 from recent Lamar visitor Grayson Early (Jefferson 2018)

SABO Gold 53 Team Stage 49

SABO Gold trailed by 1 at the halftime break, but were galvanized in the second half by the play of Michael Bradley (Cornerstone Christian 2018) and Avery Theus (Brandeis 2018), and wound up 4-point winners over Team Stage. Theus would lead his team with 15 points, while Bradley scored 10 of his 12 after the break. Jevaughnte Shannon (Steele 2018) added 14 in the win. Elijah Parquet (Beaumont Westbrook 2018) was the story for Team Stage, scoring 17 as he turned heads with his strength and finishing ability. Team Stage actually led for a good part of the second half before a double-technical ejection gave SABO Gold the lead for good.

3D Nation 67 Hustle Elite 59

Alec Grandstaff (Rockwall 2019) came out firing, hitting 5 out of 7 threes as his 3D Nation squad rolled past Hustle Elite in GASO pool play. Grandstaff's hot shooting, coupled with great production from Evan Anderson (Hebron 2019) and Max Valentino (Argyle 2019), scoring a team high 16 and 11 respectively, gave 3D the push it needed to move to 1-0 in their pool. Hustle Elite brought a varied offensive attack to the table, with Pete Esposito (Kempner 2018) scoring 12, and four other teammates scoring 9 a piece.

Team Texas-Lamar 65 CenTex Attack-Lee 64

Jonathan Oradiegwu (FB Austin 2018) hit 5 three pointers in the game, but it was his last make from deep that really stole the spotlight. CenTex Attack made their second free throw to put them up 2, before Oradiegwu went the length of the floor with three seconds left and banked in an off-balance runner high off the glass as time expired to give Team Texas the win. Oradiegwu scored 15 for the game, while Matthew Okoye (FB Austin 2017) went off for a game high 30.

Team Texas actually trailed by 20 points in the game, before a long comeback run led by Okoye and capped off with Oradiegwu's moment of magic. CenTex Attack used big games from Carter McMahan (Rouse 2019) and Cameron Jackson (Harker Heights 2018) to build that lead, with the pair combining for 25 points. Hunter Stevens (Leander 2020) added two triples, but it ultimately wasn't enough to fend off an inspired comeback from Team Texas.

Prince Elite 50 Houston Hoops 17U 49

JC Jarrett (Canyon 2018) put up 13 points for Prince Elite as they dropped Houston Hoops to 0-2 for the weekend. A hot start to both halves saw Prince Elite gain the advantage on Houston Hoops, but they were never able to stretch the lead enough to make it comfortable. Troy Higgins (Steele 2018) hit 3 threes for 9, with big man Adrian McConnell (Warren 2018) scoring 9 as well. Hoops were led by the play of Travion Gibson (Channelview 2018) and Denman Kane (Episcopal 2018) with 12 a piece in the loss.
