Denton Guyer 78 Lancaster 70: Denton Guyer and Lancaster are historically two of the top programs in the state. Guyer got by Lancaster with a 78-70 win. The Tigers of Lancaster led at halftime 42-34 and looked to have things under control but Guyer came back and took the lead for good 63-60 with 3:37 left in the game. The game was a foul fest late as Lancaster continually put the Wildcats on the line. Guyer hit 6 of 8 in the last minute of the game to seal the win.

Guyer has an impressive line-up with 6’5” Jace Wilson (2022), 6’5” Amaechi Chukwu (2020), 6’5” Tyler McGhie (2020), 6’7” Kye’Ron Lindsey (2022) and 6’6” Brayden Bradshaw (2021). The Wildcats were playing without the services of one of their top players 6’8” Jakobe Coles (2020).

Lancaster went to full-court press late with little success. Mike Miles (2020) was impressive for the Tigers throughout the game and finished with 20 points. Miles is strong going to the basket and is a handful to stop. Other players putting up double figures for Lancaster were Demaryon Thornton (2020), who knocked down three treys and ended up with 13 points. Wade Taylor (2021) joined in the scoring parade scoring 13 points and Chris Williams (2020) was good for 12 points.

Only six players scored for Guyer, but of those six, four were in double digits. Chukwu led the charge with 18 points, followed by Bradshaw’s 15 points. Other Wildcats finding their way into the scoring column were Tyler McGhie with 15 points and Lindsay ended up with 11. Guyer's inside game was the difference for the Wildcats.

Duncanville 84 Dallas Kimball 55: Duncanville ravaged Dallas Kimball 84-55. The Panthers of Duncanville had defeated Atascocita earlier in the day 82-71. Atascocita was missing one of their top players in Dylan Dawson(2020), but Duncanville handled their business.

At the 4:55 mark of the 1st half, Dallas Kimball had the lead at 19-18, when Duncanville outscored the Knights over the next four minutes 21 to 3. At halftime, the Panthers were in control up 39-22 and the game was pretty much over. Everybody got into the act for Duncanville, as ten Panthers found their way into the scoring column. 6’7” Ronald Holland (2023) had a nice game with 14 points, Antoneo Pavia (2022) and Damon Nicholas (2021) added 12 apiece. The Panthers were hitting from everywhere and finished the game with eight three pointers. Duncanville’s depth was the difference.

The Knights of Kimball had very few bright spots. Arterio Morris (2022) has a nice future and created a lot of problems for Duncanville, finishing the day with 16 points. Marcus Bonner (2020) was the only other Knight in double figures with 19 points.

Richardson 83 Ft. Worth Brewer 57: Two outstanding sophomores led the way for the Eagles of Richardson High school in the teams 83-57 win over Ft. Worth Brewer. Rylan Griffen (2022) and Cason Wallace (2022) combined for 55 points in the victory. Richardson was up by 30 early in 2nd half action with a running clock. Brewer had some bright spots with Curtis Moffett’s (2020) four impressive dunks. At 5’9”, Moffett is an exceptional leaper.

Mansfield 62 Dallas Kimball 50: Kimball played well in the 1st half against Mansfield and held down a 31-27 lead at intermission. Things went south for the Knights after halftime, as the Tigers of Mansfield came back to take a 62-50 victory. In the most unusual shooting exhibition of the showcase, Mansfield began raining three pointers from everywhere. The Tigers bench was going crazy with enthusiasm as Brian Fichter (2020) and Daniel Maktabi (2021) led the shooting exhibition. For Kimball, they began to fall apart once again as they went to their bench.

Frisco Memorial 75 Birdville 54: Memorial, out of Frisco, has an outstanding group of young ballers that will make some noise over the next few seasons. In a very unusual game, Memorial made a 12-point run over a 3-minute stretch in the 2nd half and took a 60-46 lead. The Warriors of Memorial were led by freshman guard, Drew Steffe (2023). During the three-minute stretch, Steffe knocked down four threes. Birdville tried valiantly to get back into the game to no avail.

Other standouts for Memorial included 5’10” Avery Jackson (2022) and 6’6” Josh Thrower (2022). Birdville has a scrappy group who played with a lot of emotion. Birdville looked to 6’5” Ocie Berry (2021), 6’6” Clyde Cummings (2023) and 5’8” Chase Henderson (2022). Henderson is the younger brother of the former Mississippi standout, Marshall Henderson.
