Freshman leads Guyer to win

Midlothian - This game could have gone either way as the lead changed several times throughout the game, especially in the fourth quarter. With 2:17 left in the final eight minutes and the game knotted at 60, senior guard Zach Garza from Denton Guyer shot a three-pointer as he stared down his defender. With that made three-pointer, Guyer went up 63-60 (2:04).
Garza fouled out with 12 points with 1:03 to go and Midlothian went up by one 64-63 after four straight free-throws by sophomore Evan Marshall (10 points). The two teams exchanged buckets, and freshman Devion Harmon take the ball for Guyer to the rim and finishes in traffic to give Guyer a 67-66 lead. Midlothian had a few attempts but couldn't convert. Super freshman Jalen Wilson for Guyer came up with the game-winning steal and drained two free-throws with seconds left. Wilson finished with a game-high 22 points.

Head coach, Grant Long of Guyer, said that he called Garza's number late in the fourth as his three-pointer gave Guyer the late lead.
"It was a designed play that we wanted Zach to penetrate, but he pulled up and hit the three. Zach has the green light and is a deadly shooter."
Wilson made a few freshmen mistakes, but he was the star of the game.
"Big-time at both ends of the court," said Long. "He rebounded and brought the ball up the court with confidence, and he was put into a situation to produce as a freshman and he did. I am very proud of him."
"I had a lot of confidence throughout the game, but I knew we had to get a stop at the end of the game, and it worked out that I was around the ball at the right time," said Wilson.
Wilson knew what he had to do to be successful in his first varsity game, and it worked for the 6-foot-3 guard
"I wanted to get off to a quick start and be confident out there for my team," said Wilson. "I tried to stay calm and let the game come to me and not force things. We got the win and it feels good to start 1-0."
Sophomore Kaden Archie was Midlothian's team leader in points with 19.
