Class A Division II: Bronte, Paducah win

AUSTIN -- There were times when it looked like Bronte couldn't miss in Friday night's Class A Division II state semifinal against Roxton.
Bronte scorched the nets and cruised to an 80-60 win against Roxton in front of 10,104 at the Frank Erwin Center. The Longhorns made 31 of 44 shots, a sizzling 70.5 percent from the field.

It was enough to make Bronte coach Rocky Rawls smile and after the game.
"I'll be honest. I told them since about the third game that they were capable of doing that," Rawls said. "They just hadn't done it all year. They picked a great time to do that. Hopefully, we have one more of those in us."
Bronte (33-3) has been under the leadership of senior Dakota Rawls all season, but on Friday, it was twin brother Kerwin Rawls who had the hot hand. Kerwin made 11 of 15 shots, including 4 of 6 from the 3-point line, to finish a remarkable game with 30 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.
"These past 2games, I've been feeling it," Kerwin said. "Teams have not been letting Dakota get the ball, so I just took it upon myself."
Dakota finished with 14 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. Creed Coalson also had a solid game, scored 12 points and connecting on all four 3-point attempts. Terron Charles added 10 points for the Longhorns.
"They're tough to defend," Roxton coach Hosea Lee said of Bronte. "All year long, haven't played against length like that. Teams that give us problems are teams that have length. One thing we couldn't do was play their style."
Roxton was led by Quinton Walker, who had 20 points and four assists, and Lester Green, who had 15 points.
Paducah 67, Waelder 31: Paducah turned a close, first-quarter lead into a blowout victory and a spot in the UIL Class A Division II championship game.
Paducah led Waelder, 17-13, and the Dragons cushioned their lead by outscoring the Wildcats, 18-2, in the quarter. From there, Paducah cruised and rode the coattails of its 1-2 tandem of forwards Lonnie Hurd and Trey McGruder.
Hurd finished with a game-high 21 points. He also had 12 rebounds and eight blocked shots. McGruder finished with 16 points and 17 rebounds, and he made 7 out of 10 shots.
No Waelder players finished in double figures. Cory Fonseca and Dontral Houston each had nine points in the loss.
