Another week, another seismic transfer changes the Texas high school landscape, this time with Jaquan Scott leaving Mansfield Timberview to go to Universal Academy. Scott’s arrival at Universal means that his new team will certainly be a stop on every college coach’s itinerary through DFW, with Scott and his new teammate Jaylin Posey serving as two of the hottest names in the 2020 class.

The transfer also meant that 5A title picture just got a lot more jumbled, with preseason No.7 Timberview losing their best frontcourt presence. The Wolves will still be a tough out in region 2, with players like CJ Smith, Trazarien White and Rod Soares capable of picking up the slack.

Keeping up with the Commitments

A quiet week on the commitment front got busy in a hurry towards the back end of the week with several notable commitments. Our Blue Zertuche spoke with recently minted Texas Southern commit Ja’Mare Redus of Aldine Eisenhower, and will have more on shortly on Pflugerville Hendrickson combo guard Isaac Bullard’s verbal to Army West Point.

D2 also had a couple of commitments from San Antonio, with Clark’s Cooper Vanlandingham announcing he will play his college ball at Harding, and Sayvon Frye taking his talents to St. Edward’s.

UT-Tyler making Asiegbu a priority

This weekend we also heard from Houston St. Pius X standout Stanley Asiegbu, with UT-Tyler interested in the player as they gear up for the jump to NCAA Division 2 and the Lone Star Conference next year.

“They (UT-Tyler coaches) told me that they were interested after watching me play in the Super 16,” Asiegbu said. “I already had a academic visit scheduled so i went and watched a practice and training sessions and said that they would continue evaluating me.”
