TexasHoops Progress Reports Pt. 1

At the start of 2018, TexasHoops.com checks in on the progress being made at the high school level by recruits who have already committed in the class of 2018. Lyndon Cook
has selected 3 players in the DFW area to headline the first batch of progress reports.

Larry Wise - Waxahachie - Drake Commit

Wise has been the standout player so far for Waxahachie as they have emerged as one of the top teams in the state, with victories over a pair of 6A favorites in Denton Guyer and Cy Falls. Wise’s outside shooting is markedly improved this year and has opened up the floor for him to score with ease. A 31-point outing against North Crowlet to open the Whataburger Tournament is proof of just how far Wise has come on the offensive end. Though Drake left it late for their recruitment of Wise, they will be getting a bonafide player next year.

TexasHoops Take: Wise is one of DFW’s top forwards in the 2018 class and will spearhead Waxahachie’s push to repeat as district champions and avenge their loss to old foe Mansfield Timberview in last year’s regional finals.

Mason Hix - Justin Northwest - UT Arlington Commit

After a standout summer with 3D Empire landed Hix a commitment to rising power UT Arlington, the future Maverick has made a smooth transition to Northwest after transferring from Granbury. Hix’s ability to shoot the three ball as a stretch 4 will translate easily to the college level and he is still dangerous on the drive. Hix has operated well this year as a secondary scoring option, still putting up numbers with a game complementary to star point guard Avery Anderson.

TexasHoops Take: Hix shares a similar upward trajectory to the UTA program he is committed to, and will hope that he can be the difference in winning two more games in the playoffs for last year’s state semi-finalists Northwest.

Jaylen Walker - Allen - Navy Commit

Walker has been an integral part of one of class 6A’s most underrated teams. Walker’s Allen team took home the In-N-Out Burger Tournament championship on their home floor over the weekend, with Walker playing a significant part in the title game victory over Lake Travis. The forward works hard to shut down his opponents in the frontcourt, and operates best in the mid-post where he uses solid footwork to get to the rim in finish. Walker will run the court and is always a threat to score on the fastbreak.

TexasHoops Take: Walker always seems to deliver for both his Texas Impact squad over the summer and his Allen team this year: Expect no different from him at the Naval Academy when he’s playing at the next level.
