TexasHoops Friday Rewind

BYNUM COMMITS TO UTSA

Tamir Bynum became the third prospect from the class of 2018 to commit this past week as he said "Yes" to the new regime led by head coach Steven Henson at UTSA. Bynum has taken an unofficial visit to the Roadrunners campus back in June and plans to be back soon.

The official offer came Monday, and Bynum took it.

"I like coach Henson, he's a great recruiter," Bynum told TexasHoops.com. "He told me that since I'm a good point guard and I know some of the top guys I could get them to come along with me."

PITTS COMMITMENT IS SHORT LIVED

The current c/o 2017 No.34 ranked player in the state, Josh Pitts told TexasHoops.com earlier this week that he was done with football, but late Thursday night, the 6-foot-9 Pitts accepted an offer from the UTSA Football team after meeting with the UTSA football coaches.

Pitts was sitting on twelve basketball offers with others looking into the San Antonio Memorial product. Fast forward less than 16 hours later, and Pitts has de-committed from his UTSA football offer.

What's next? Summer coach Louis Martinez said that he and Pitts talked through the situation and are now taking a brief step back to explore all options.

The basketball community around the country, especially the schools who have invested time in the developing big man can collectively sigh in relief.

REED GETTING PLENTY OF OFFERS

Heading into the Great American Shoot-Out during the second Live Period of July, River Reed had zero offers. Since then, the 6-foot-8 stretch four-man has collected five offers. Evansville, Houston Baptist, Loyola (MD), North Texas, and St Francis (PA) have all extended offers and Reed is in the process of setting up visits (per his mother).

Dating back to June after TexasHoops.com spoke to San Antonio Regan head coach John Hirst, he said that it will all fall into place for Reed, and it has. Hirst once told us that Michael Williams was going to be a Big XII player, and he was right about that several years ago.
