Fun match ups...
If there was one game that fans would want to buy a ticket for, it would be the 8:20 tip Friday night to see Deron Williams Elite-Pope vs. TX D1 Ambassadors-Carlton. This game will feature over 18 division I players ranging from high to low majors. College coaches will pack court #2 of the Bob Knight Fieldhouse to catch two of the state's best circuit team, regardless of affiliation.
Saturday, spectators will be treated to one of the up and coming teams in the state, Rashard Lewis Elite takes on the San Antonio Spurs. A different match up, with Rashard Lewis having possibly the top 2016 player in Deaaron Fox, and the Spurs featuring 6-foot-9 David Wacker, and and 6-foot-10 Ben Lammers All three are considered high-major candidates.
Teams to Watch...
3D Sports Team Bizness
Team Bizness has a nice balance of guards to go along with their big-man, 6-foot-11 Austin Evans. The guards are lead by shooter Evan Beucler, and ball handlers Broderick Perkins and Karrey Saunders. Deondre Edwards adds depth to the position.
Dallas Mustangs-Harris 17
The Mustangs are led by the slasher, Seth LeDay. LeDay will have help from guards Jaylon Cleveland and Darion Brown, who can hit threes, and developing big-man Ryan Bradley.
Deron Williams Elite-Pope
This is a team built for runs at championships (c/o 2014). With one GASO title in early April, Pope's team will take the floor with 10 top 100 players in the TexasHoops.com rankings. Jeremy combs and Erick Neal are known for their scoring power, but also lean on Omar Sherman, D'Angelo Allen to get rebounds and man the middle. Also helping with the attack is twin Derrick Neal, shooters Collin Curran, and TK Brown. Add to the mix a developing wing in Devin Wyatt, and Terrance Hubby (the lone 2015) and the depth is easy to see. Also, Tim Priller and newly aquired Bola Alade round off the DWill Elite-Pope team.
Game Tight Elite
Floor leader and one of the team's top scorers, Jordan Box is a guard that gets the team moving. Undersized paint player Wesley Franklin is crafty inside the key, and is a force. Dreshawn Haywood is a rangy athlete with deep range. Overall, Game Tight will get after their opponent and plays under control and smart.
Houston Cowboys Black 2014
The leader of this group is Jerome Segura that is a speedster up the court. Mix in chemistry that teammates Taj Jones, James Taylor and Ryan Heller have established over many years of playing on the same team, and it is an ingredient for winning.
Houston Hoopstars
What do we expect from this Hoopstars group is toughness. There hasn't been a program that produces more energy from their intense defense from years past and a fan section that can intimate. Jovan Yancy, and Mike Flynn are names that are recognized, but there is also some newcomers that will play the Hoopstars type of ball that will surprise us all.
Pro Skills 16U
This is the first of two Pro Skills teams that will have the college coaches staring. Take 6-foot-10 (2016) Schnider Harard and his presence alone in the paint will turn some heads. Josh Parrish is another 2016 that is a strong built lefty that has a nice stroke. Jeremiah Jefferson and Deon Barrett will play the one-two and produce on the offensive end. Tyler Williams is hard to stop once he builds steam towards the basket and Harrison Henderson is maturing nicely in the middle.
Pro Skills 17U
The Pro Skills 17's have some really nice athletes in brothers Xavier Smith (2013) and Zach Smith. Both are very bouncy in the lane and will be the two looked at as the teams rebounders. With Connor McClenaghan facing up from 15-feet will help the offensive attack. And Jackson Forbes has the ability to put up big numbers when he plays with energy.
Rashard Lewis Elite
A lot has been said about Deaaron Fox, but fellow 2016 forward Josh Hall is a handful with his versatility. The cat-like quickness of point guard Antino Jackson makes the engine of RLE even harder to stop. Elton Dyer gives the squad an additional outside shooter besides Fox.
San Antonio 210 Jayhawks
The Jayhawks come in with a new attitude and players. Ja'Michael Brown in the backcourt will make things difficult with his aggressive style of play, and Tanner Leissner brings toughness and scoring. Tony Lewis, as we mentioned in an earlier article, will have to bring his game to another level as everyone awaits a big performance from him on the block.
San Antonio Spurs
The Spurs bring with them from down south the biggest front-court with David Wacker and Ben Lammers. Whether the two play a high low, or a four-in-one-out style, the big-men will be hard to contain. Marcus Harris is the Spurs floor leader and perimeter threat. Max Riemenschneider is an energy player that can hit threes or get to the basket.
San Antonio Rowhawks
Rohawks have a mixture of players starting with sophomore sensation Jordan Murphy. Murphy is a smooth forward that gets a lot done in the paint on both ends of the court. Fellow 2015, Jorden Kite can get hot from arc and keep the defense off balance. Austin Henry stretches out to the perimeter for mismatches and will battle inside. Combo guard Asa Cantwell can hurt opponents with his court vision or his shooting touch.
Texas Hardwood Prospects 17
The newly assembled Hardwood squad will rely on Marcale Lotts who is a leaper around the basket. He will play with his back to the basket and score. Transtion player, Chris Gatling will race his opponents up the floor. he is a nice athlete that can hit the open three. This could be a sleeper team this weekend.
Texas Thunder Blue
The guard heavy Austin area team brings a mixture of penetrators and shooters. Jahlil Tutein is a drive first guard that can get buckets in the middle, while De'Shawn Riddick uses his soft touch from mid-range to score. Jaylen Shead is a complete guard as he has shown in the past.
Triumph Select Gold
Anotrher solid all-around team for the Triumph program, but this year there is a little more athleticism on the court. Two up and coming forwards, Emmanuel Nzekewesi and Mason Riggins gives the Gold size and quickness inside. Taylor Johnson and Sam Victor brings along three-point shooting and skilled ball handling. Competitor Caleb Johnston brings an active style to a complete squad.
TX D1 Ambassadors-Carlton
From top to bottom, this Ambassadors team is due for a title. They have been so close, coming in as runner ups in several out of state tournaments and last year just missing out on a GASO championship. The time has to be now with Chase Carlton being one of the state's toughest players. Rashard Odomes is getting attention with his explosive style of play. Twins, Cameron DeLaney and Josh DeLaney will hit the court, giving the D1 Nation fans a spark with scoring. Harrison Hackney is a multi-dimensional guard that will drain threes, or attack the rim. Underneath is Roderick Taylor who is growing his game with powerful play, and the return of Hayden Cagle gives the group depth and balance. Finally, the addition to unsigned senior wing Ethan Gilbert has the athleticism and experience to help TX D1 compete for a title.
