Sam Houston State gets Shelby Adams

Converse Judson's guard Shelby Adams has kept his recruitment relatively quiet and went through the process going back and forth between Sam Houston State and Texas State. The 6-foot-4 Rocket who has been a 3-year varsity standout relied heavily on his two year relationship with head coach Jason Hooten and assistant Chris Mudge of Sam Houston when he announced his decision.

"I was offered by Sam Houston when I was a sophomore and coach Hooten made me a priority during the past two years and didn't recruit anyone else at my position," Shelby told TexasHoops.com. "My decision wasn't easy and was very stressful, but coach Hooten came to the school and told me no matter my decision that it would all work out."

Shelby did say that he spoke with coach Mudge several times and felt like coach Mudge was a big brother, someone he could talk to about anything that was going on in his life.

Adams had visited the campus of Sam Houston plenty of times over the years and saw the development of the program.

"I like the players and the coaches and the program is a winnng program. I'm a competitor and I like winning, so it was easy for me to see myself as a Bearkat," Adams said. "I have seen practice and they go hard and everyone their wants to win."

By capturing the commitment of Shelby Adams, the Bearkats now have three players from the state in their 2017 recruiting class. Paris Junior College shooter Devin Jackson and power forward Jesse "Bubba" Furlong from Waco Midway will sign their NLI next month.

Adams traveled with the 210 D1 Premier during the spring and summer.
