River Reed makes decision, commits to Loyola MD

River Reed of San Antonio Reagan has called it quits on his recruitment and verbally committed to Loyola University in Maryland. Reed had seven other offers to his name but decided it was time for him to commit his future to Loyola. Reed spoke with TexasHoops.com's Lyndon Cook about his decision and what the future holds for him in the Patriot League.

"The Patriot League is a very good league and I'm definitely going to get a good education from Loyola," Reed said. "On my visit I really liked the guys on the team and felt that I fit in well."

Reed also held offers from Houston Baptist, Incarnate Word, Rider, St Francis (PA), Dartmouth, Evansville, and North Texas, and was receiving interest from Texas State and South Dakota.

"I want to feel my fit on the team and fill whatever role the team needs me to," Reed said about his game. "I'll have to see what works and what doesn't. I believe my ability to adapt will help a lot. So that could be what translates the best."

Reed will be taking his impressive repertoire of offensive skills with him to Baltimore. The Reagan big man was impressive all summer playing for SABO Gold, showed off his footwork and soft touch around the basket all over the GASO circuit. His passing touch and court running ability allows him to be a weapon in transition. Reed, who stands at six-foot-9, has a smooth stroke from outside and the versatility to beat his man to the bucket from the perimeter. Reed's length makes him a rebounding force as well as a good defender.

When asked about attending school in Maryland, Reed had this to say:

"Since my sister plays volleyball at Baylor I understand that you won't be able to come home as much so I think the distance won't be a big problem."

Reed is currently on the way back from a foot injury and plans to return before the start of his senior season.
