On the Road with TX Hoops: TX Invitational, Warriors Classic, SACS & NE/NS

Houston/San Antonio - The first stop was the Pasadena Texas Invitational on Thursday. Next a trip to San Antonio to take in the Cornerstone Warriors Classic early Friday afternoon and then Friday night at the SACS Tournament. Finally, the weekend ended at the Northeast/Northside Tournament.

TexasHoops.com Recruiting analyst, Blue Zertuche gives a quick report from the three-days of being at the Tournaments listed above.

Avery Eugster • San Antonio St Mary’s Hall • Small Forward • 2020

Unsigned senior Eugster has the reputation of being an all-purpose prospect and once again he filled the stat sheet with his play. He scored by attacking the rim and hit shots from the outside, and you can contribute his success to his athleticism that makes it easy for him to get position on his opponents to score or grab multiple rebounds. Eugster plays hard, all the time and makes plays.

PJ Haggerty • Crosby • Combo Guard • 2022

Let’s start with this. Haggerty is a high volume shooter, but is a high volume scorer. This comes to no surprise for TexasHoops.com who witnessed Haggerty’s prolific scoring totals back in September at the GASO Fall Classic. Last Thursday, Haggerty started his day dropping 46 points, followed by a 42 point performance with TexasHoops.com in attendance. Haggerty kills a zone-defense and takes deep threes and shoots it with confidence. But what’s more interesting about Haggerty’s game is his time he spends at the free-throw line. The 6-foot-1 guard takes contact and doesn’t shy away from bigger opponents.

Vincent Iwuchukwu • San Antonio Cole • Post • 2022

The TexasHoops.com staff is making their rounds through the state and along the way we are collecting the prospects in the sophomore class that will make the classes first ranking come this January. Staring down a top five ranking is 6-foot-11 Iwuchukwu who is an elite athlete with quickness. Iwuchukwu Is a shot blocking mobile big who moves swiftly in transition and who can cover a ton of space with his reach and stride. He is a rim protecting big on the defensive end and offensively, Iwuchukwu works to score by using his wingspan and easily plays above the rim.

Jeffrey Mills • Flower Mound • Guard • 2020

Mills helped the Flower Mound Jaguars to a Northeast/North Side tournament championship last weekend and the Air Force bound guard plays multiple roles for the Jags. He provides what the team needs as a ballhandler, scorer and defender. Mills is a coachable player who plays the system and pace that head coach Eric Littleton wants. The way that Flower Mounds plays still gives Mills opportunities to get going and drill the three and finish at the rim. Mills plays within the flow of the game and the ball is always there for him in crunch time.

Gavino RamosSan Antonio • Combo Guard • 2021

Ramos is a natural scorer and the wiry framed guard dices his way to the basket to score in crowd. It doesn’t matter the competition or the size of his opponent, Ramos is going to get things done on the offensive end. His body control and long reach gives him advantage once he leaves his feet. Ramos plays the game the right way and wants the ball and the big moments in the game.

DJ Richards Cy Creek • Shooting Guard • 2021

Richardson was impressive with his shooting ability out past the arc. Richards is lanky and has a nice skill set to go along with his stroke. When needed, Richards brought the ball up in pressure situations and looked to get to get to the rim. When his motor is running at a high level, the guard is hard to stop. Richards can get hot in the matter of seconds from the tip and finds the open spots to shoot.

Jordan Wood San Antonio Cornerstone • Forward • 2020

A skilled passer, dribbler, rebounder and shooter. Wood has a complete package for the next level, and that could be higher than what you think. I will admit, Wood didn’t have a great July and his ranking suffered. In late June, Wood sat at the No.30 ranked player, and then he fell to No.62 in our most recent TexasHoops.com Rankings. But if we could rewind and make a switch, he would be much higher and probably land somewhere in the top 25. This past Friday, Wood played at a high-level and looks every bit the part. It’s only been two months since we saw him last at our San Antonio GASO Fall Classic, and it appears that in that short of time, he has added weight and most importantly the passion to play against the very best when he takes the court.
