New UTSA commit Jhivvan Jackson talks to TexasHoops.com

Lingering was one of the state’s top uncommitted point guards in Euless Trinity’s Jhivvan Jackson. The 6-foot-1 scoring threat landed last week at Texas-San Antonio as he gave first-year head coach Steve Henson his pledge.

Jackson was seen very little as he suited up for the Puerto Rican National team during the months of June and July. Still, with his name floating around and strong performances at the Fall Great American Shoot-Out (Dallas), Jackson proved to be a potential top 15 candidate in the state.

Jackson visited UTSA mid-October and committed on the 24th, last Monday.

“UTSA was the right fit for me,” said Jackson. “I trust coach Henson and his staff to make me better as a player as well as a person.

“The coaches trust and believe in me and I'm ready to come in and produce. “I've worked my whole life for this opportunity.”

Jackson’s father, LeRoy was a member of the Oregon State Beavers 1990-1992, had this to say about his son’s commitment to UTSA.

“I saw the coaching staff click right away with Jhivvan, and for my son, relationships, trust and fit were very important during the recruiting process. Just like my son, the coaching staff at UTSA are special and our family is very happy.”

Mark Villines, the head coach at Trinity High School is no stranger to elite talent as he coached current NBA star Myles Turner. Villines sees Jackson’s future as being bright.

“I think it's a great level for him, especially going to a program with a new coach and a new vision. Jhivvan is capable of stepping right in and making an impact for four years. His ability to score the ball is going to help him. He will now have good guys around him.”
