Its Select in the Austin/Georgetown GASO

July 6th is quickly approaching and the final tournament before the Great American Shoot-Out hits Denton was played in Austin this past weekend. A record number of teams participated in the shoot-out and fans saw Houston Select (NBA), Austin Thunder (NCAA), and Dallas Heroes 15 (NIT), take home a championship trophy in their division.

The Select were missing a few players and a bit undersized, but with the strong talent of guards that they did have present made it difficult for their opponents.

"We knew that we had the advantage of pushing the ball up court," said Houston Select's coach, Marc Simpson. "We were a lot quicker than some teams this weekend."

The Select were lead by Logan Lancon's outside shooting and the solid play by both point guards,Demetri Goodson and Toure Murray.

"Coaches that are sleeping on [Toure] Murray better start looking at him, because he may not be available after the Denton tournament," added Simpson. "He's shooting the ball and running this team great."

Simpson continues by talking about Lancon's shooting ability.

"He [Lancon] really opened things up for us inside. Teams had to concentrate on the penetration of Goodson, and once the defense collapsed, Logan was there to catch the pass and knock down his shot."

Select took a 35-28 lead into half behind Lancon three three's and never allowed Rashad Lewis squad take control of the game.
