GASO: Louisiana shines in NCAA brackets

DUNCANVILLE, Texas -- At a tournament loaded with strong Texas teams, the split NCAA Division brackets of the 23rd Great American Shoot-Out belonged to the state of Louisiana.
The Louisiana Bayou Flames 16s won the NCAA Red Division title by defeating Next Generation Texas 16s, 57-52, Monday afternoon. Next Generation won the NCAA title at the Memorial Day GASO at the end of May.

A couple hours later, Peabody Hoops, a high school team out of Alexandria, La., scored a 52-48 win against the Texas PRO-Rhossi, a team that won a NCAA title at the May Spring GASO at the beginning of May.
The Flames, a team of 2013s, outscored 2013-laden Next Generation, 35-24, in the second half. The Flames trailed by six at halftime but were led by the play of Trevor Duncan, Brandon Watkins and Julian Thomas.
Watkins had 15 points, while Duncan and Thomas added 13 and 10 points, respectively. Tyus Bowser and Jalen Jones had 10 points each for Next Generation.
After the Flames handle business, Peabody completed the double against Texas, using a fast first-half start to its advantage. The PRO trailed, 12-2, early.
The PRO managed to fight back and trailed by four at half. In the second half, Peabody led, 49-46, with 20.2 seconds left and used two clutch free throws by Henry Pryor to seal the game.
Peabody's scoring attack was paced by Dee Wagner, who had 14 points. Alden Miles was high point for the PRO with 13.
