GASO Daily Trio: DFW 2018's Looking to Make Moves in July

David Nzekwesi - Triumph Gold - Trophy Club Byron Nelson - 2018

TexasHoops ANALYSIS: Nzekwesi is one of the most skilled true bigs in his recruiting class. Able to hit the three or make strong post moves inside, Nzekwesi can be a game changer in the middle. Originally hailing from The Netherlands, Nzekwesi credits his exceptional footwork to his international upbringing and focus on soccer as his original sport of choice. After moving to the U.S. at age 11, Nzekwesi has risen to the No.36 ranked player in the Texas 2018 class. Time to grow into his body and more aggressiveness on defense would help Nzekwesi, but his offensive game is about as skilled as it gets for a 5-man.

What he's looking forward to in July: "I'm feeling better than ever. I've improved a lot and I feel fresh. No injuries or anything like that." When asked what he wants to prove during the Live Period, Nzekwesi responded, "That I am a high major college basketball player."

Interest & Offers: Nzekwesi has pulled in a lot of offers over the course of the spring and summer, with his number of offers currently sitting at 14 from the likes of Abilene Christian, Air Force, Boise State, Canisius, Lamar, New Hampshire, North Texas, Oral Roberts, Rice, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin, Texas State, UC-Davis, and UT-Arlington. Other coaching staffs who have reached out to Nzekwesi include Arkansas-Little Rock, Colorado, LSU, Louisiana Tech, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and TCU.

What he's looking for in a program: "A place where I'll get to play with a good coaching staff and teammates that are used to winning. I want to go somewhere with good academics and an environment where I can grow in my faith."

What he's working on before the Live Period: "I'm working on taking my defender off the dribble, my rebounding and being an even better teammate."

Hix
Hix

Mason Hix - 3D Empire - Justin Northwest - 2018

TexasHoops ANALYSIS: Hix is one of the most versatile bigs on the GASO circuit, and gets his points on the perimeter and in the post. His skill level and range keeps defenders honest on the perimeter, and he has shown a quick first step to get past his man and make plays on the drive. Hix has proved he can guard much larger back-to-basket bigs by holding his own in the block for 3D Empire this year. Hix has a solid arsenal of moves in the low post, but is most dangerous as a 4-man with freedom to pick his spots to attack at the elbows or on the perimeter. Hix has transferred to Northwest High for his senior season to live closer to his mother, and will take the court next year alongside a loaded squad including the No.11 prospect in the 2019 class Avery Anderson.

What he's looking forward to in July: "I feel like I'm playing really well and I'm just preparing myself for the upcoming July Live Period. I'm trying to show (college coaches) my versatility and ability to knock down the 3."

How he will fit in at Northwest next year: "I'm really excited. Coach (Mike) Hatch is a great coach. They went to state last year and have some really good players returning. Hopefully with me we can make another run. We're also playing in the Whataburger Tournament and Thanksgiving Hoop Fest so it should be a good year."

Interest & Offers: Hix enters July with a single offer he picked up from Oral Roberts while on an unofficial visit there, but that's not to say his phone hasn't been busy. Interested schools include Abilene Christian, Denver, Mercer, Montana, Northeastern, Northern Colorado, Rice, Southern Illinois, and Texas State.

What he's working on before the Live Period: "I've been working on my three-point shooting. I'm really trying to become a knock-down shooter."

Jahmar Young - Urban DFW Elite - DeSoto - 2018

TexasHoops ANALYSIS: A Lanky interior player who gets off the floor in a hurry. Gets rebounds, putbacks, and will use his long reach over his opponents for easy lay-ins. He gets up and down with ease and will get the ball in transition and finish. He has good instincts and blocks shots.

What he's looking forward to in July: "I feel confident. I've been prepared all June to get ready for July. Going to the NBPA camp put me against the best in the country and I took advantage of that. I'm working on my own in the morning to get better at stuff I can't do well. So I really think I'm ready for anything."

How he fits in with a loaded Urban DFW team: "I fit in with Urban because I get defensive stops and set screens and get my teammates open. I like to run the floor and they push the tempo so we can get easy buckets. The teammates I have are greatly skilled and I just fall in as a piece of something great."

Interest & Offers: UTSA was the first program to offer Young, though many more are likely to after the Live Period GASO. Murray State, Texas A&M, Tulsa, and VCU are all interested, and Young revealed he will be on campus in College Station before the summer is out.

What he's working on before the Live Period: "I've been working on my ball handling, my jumper, and blocking more shots. But mostly my shooting."
