GASO Scouting Reports: Central Texas Teams and Players on the Rise

Part 3 of the "GASO Scouting Reports" series takes a look at some of the best and brightest teams in the Austin/San Antonio Area. Big name prospects feature on every team and at least one of these teams seems a good bet to take home some hardware from the Live Period GASO.

Urban ASAK Elite

Team Profile: Urban ASAK has had a tough summer in dealing with injuries, but are rounding into full health just in time for the Live Period GASO. Do it all 4-man and No.2 prospect in the state Brock Cunningham (Westlake 2018) has been impressing all summer long, and has gotten the attention of several power 5 schools. Jayden Martinez (Steele 2018) has burst onto the scene since joining up with ASAK this summer. Shasirae Harvey (Austin LBJ 2018) is a point guard who could have a big Live Period, and Caleb Golden (Cedar Ridge 2020) is a young prospect who coaches should take definite note of for the future.

Tournament Outlook: ASAK will be playing a very loaded schedule this weekend, beginning with games against out-of-state visitors Colorado 17U Miners Elite and LA United Dynasty 17U. Another matchup to highlight on the schedule is when ASAK plays and all-Urban game against Urban DFW Elite. They then will take on Yes II Success, Houston Defenders 17 UA, and Nike Pro Skills 17U EYBL to cap their weekend.

Yes II Success

Team Profile: With arguably the biggest name prospect in the state in Charles Bassey (St. Anthony's 2019), Yes II Success were always going to command a ton of attention from college coaches this weekend. But coming off winning the Adidas Gauntlet last weekend in Spartanburg makes this team a must-see group in the Live Period. With big time prospects like 7-footer Ousman Ndim (St. Anthony's 2018), and two talented scorers like Larry Wise (Waxahachie 2018) and Chris Mullins (Mansfield Timberview 2018), they will be tough to beat. Qua Grant (Waxahachie 2018) is yet another of the state's talented point guards to keep your eyes on during the Live Period.

Tournament Outlook: Yes II Success will be facing off with a full slate of the state's most talented teams, beginning with a contest with 3D Empire on Thursday. The rest of the weekend will consist of games against Texas Impact 4:13, Sanni Hoops Gold, Texas Hardwork 17U, Urban ASAK Elite, and finishing up with Dallas Mustangs 17.

Texas Hardwork 16 UA

Team Profile: Yet another team in the Live Period GASO field to have taken home hardware at the national level, Texas Hardwork is fresh off a 16U championship at the Under Armour Finals. And with a roster as deep and talented as theirs, it isn't hard to see why. Jahmius Ramsey (Mansfield Summit 2019) headlines for his team as an explosive scorer who can take over a game. Jalen Jackson (Wagner 2019) is one of the premier point guards in his class, and will be looking to feed skilled swingman Micah Peavy (Dekaney 2020). The trio of Vincent Iwaukor (Sulphir Springs 2019), Quniton Uribe (St. Anthony's 2019), and Nathan Hernandez (SA Southwest 2019) are others to keep in mind at the Live Period.

Tournament Outlook: Hardwork will be up against some tough competition from all age groups this weekend, with games against Louisiana Select Team Millsap, TJ Ford Austin, LA United Dynasty 17U, Basketball University 15U, and 3D Empire. An all-Under Armour matchup with Houston Defenders 16 UA is also on the cards for Hardwork.
