Che Bob of South Plains JC commits to Arkansas-Little Rock

Arkansas-Little Rock sits atop of the Sun Belt conference and first-year head coach Chris Beard strikes again by adding to his list of junior College players on his roster. South Plains College forward, Che Bob gave coach Beard a verbal commitment last night (Tuesday), and chose the No.1 Sun Belt squad over offers from Bowling Green, Hofstra, Indiana State, and Western Kentucky, along with interest from Oregon.

It should come as no surprise that the Trojans staff went to the Junior College ranks to grab another player. The entire staff has junior college roots as head and assistant coaches and Little Rock currently has seven former junior college players on the roster.

Assistant coach Mark Adams even has a Junior College National tilt from his days at Howard College while coaching Junior College All-American and current NBA player, Jae Crowder.

"Coach Beard was one of two coaches recruiting me from the start of the summer," said Bob, a North Carolina native. "He told me the success they would have this year before it happened that meant a lot to me how he kept his word."

Bob had a connection to Arkansas-Little Rock, as one of his closest friends is currently on the Trojans roster. Formerly of Hill College, Marcus Johnson and Bob grew up together in North Carolina.

"My right-hand man [Marcus] is also there and we been playing together since we were freshmen. We have had a lot of success together and I know that would be the case of playing with him at Little Rock. Coach Beard has a lot of confidence and respect for my game which made the decision that much easier."

Bob says that after playing for Junior College Hall of Famer (head coach) Steve Green at South Plains, he is ready for the next step in his college basketball career.

"Coach Green cares so much about us as players that he wants the best for us. He pushes us everyday and challenges us as a team and as individuals. I am very thankful for coach [Green] and everything he taught me."

Bob was Newcomer of the Year in the West Conference (Region v) and was named to the first team All-Conference.

Bob averaged 15.8 points per game and 7.4 rebounds in conference play.

He led South Plains to a 21-9 overall record and 12-4 in the conference, and South Plains finished 2nd in the West Conference.
