Brock Cunningham, tough player with the skill set to match

Brock Cunningham had himself quite the day at the GASO Fall Classic in San Antonio, leading Austin Westlake to a 2-1 record against elite competition. In games against Killeen Shoemaker, Cibolo Steele, and Converse Wagner, Cunningham was often the focal point of his team's attack and shouldered the responsibility well. After the tournament, Cunningham sat down with TexasHoops.com's Lyndon Cook to discuss his game and recruiting situation.

"We played alright for where we are in the season right now," Cunningham said of his team's performance. "I did not play well. I could've played a lot better in a lot of moments so I'm going to work on that."

Cunningham shot up the rankings board over the summer and now holds the No.4 spot in the class of 2018, and picked up a fair amount of offers along the way. Columbia, Houston, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Missouri, San Diego, and Tulane have all offered the Westlake 4-man, though plenty more are sure to follow suit.

"With recruiting I think I'm gonna try to make my decision before basketball season next year," Cunningham said. "I think that's the most realistic and probably the smartest thing to do."

"The three schools that I would say are really interested are Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Columbia," Cunningham revealed to TexasHoops.com. "It's hard for Columbia because they're so far away but both Oklahoma schools have been around a lot and Columbia is coming down pretty soon again. For me, the relationship I have with the coach is a big factor into my decision."

Cunningham is one of the grittiest, hardest working players on show in the state of Texas right now. If not boxed out, he will claim every board in his general area and has the finesse to finish over bigger defenders. He is a tough ask for any defender to guard 15 feet and in. He uses his body very well and has impeccable footwork down low. His face up game and turnaround jumpers have also improved markedly, and he can step out and hit the three ball. Defensively, Cunningham uses his strength and length to force opponents into bad shots and turnovers.

Cunningham also commented on his expectations for his junior year in Austin Westlake's upcoming season.

"Realistically, we should at least get it to regionals this year, but state would be ideal."
