Baseline View: Ryan Bormann

OFFERS: Trevecca Nazarene (D2)

INTEREST: Abilene Christian, Air Force, Incarnate Word, Loyola-New Orleans, and UT-Tyler

Blue's Baseline View:

Ryan Bormann has done everything that you would ask from a point guard this spring/summer while suiting up for the Austin-based, Centex Lockdown. Over the past four months, the staff of Texas Hoops/Great American Shoot-Out has taken the time to watch how the 5-foot-9 Lake Travis product has grown on the court.

He has shown his versatility and he made a transition from the high school season to the spring/summer circuit playing a more open style but has kept the fundamentals of a true point guard. Bormann has demonstrated a scorer’s mentality while running the Centex Lockdown offense and college coaches have taken notice.

Bormann is a Division 1 point guard but has no D1 offers. Will the GASO weekend in Duncanville change that for Bormann? It should and if it doesn’t, coaches are missing out.

Bormann, In his own words:

“I’m just looking for a school that fits me. I think I can play at a lower D1 program and that’s kind of what I want to do right now.”

“I’ve been driving a lot more and finishing at the rack compared to school ball which is more shooting and playing at a controlled pace. I like to get up and go and play at a quick pace and I can do that with Lockdown. I have shown my versatility and been working on my (three-point) shooting off the dribble, I haven’t hit those like I should and I’m trying to show that during the Live Period.”

Centex Lockdown Program Director, Derek Dion:

“I think his ability to hit pull up jumpers is vastly underrated. You just don’t see kids on the circuit who can do it from three, who can do it from midrange, and he can do that all day. It’s a lost art in basketball today.”

“He rebounds better than any guard I’ve ever seen at that size. He gets about 6 boards a game for us, mostly at the high post, and that’s an immediate outlet to start the break for the team. Just another way he provides easy offense even if he’s not shooting the ball.”
