Argyle Claims District Behind Dickersons Play

Argyle 50 Carrollton Ranchview 44
With a one game lead in the final game of the season, Argyle needed to protect its home court to claim the district title and avoid a one-game playoff against rival Ranchview. A wild first half in which each team knocked down five 3-pointers, resulted in the underdog guests taking a 24-21 lead into the half.

But veteran guard, Zach Dickerson of Argyle led an early charge in the 3rd quarter with a quick triple, two steals and an assist capped by a mid-range jumper and a defensive 5-seconds on the ball. A 20-7 third quarter gave Argyle what appeared to be a comfortable 10 point lead going into the final 8 minutes.
A harassing full-court trap by Ranchview caused some trouble for the home team as the lead was cut to 3 late in the game. A strong final drive by Dickerson extended the lead back to 5 and secured another district title for the Eagles.
Top Performers:
Zack Dickerson - Argyle - 2013 - 6'3" - PG
The solid built point guard has added some size and speed/quickness to his game. He is playing with more burst with the ball in his hands and has the frame to take contact. He is a very good shooter (knocked down 4 of 7 from the 3 point arc) with a smooth lefty release. He is steady with the ball, makes good decisions and moves his feet well on defense. He finished with 18 points (7 of 12 FGs), 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals.
Donavan Minter - Ranchview - 2014 - 5'10" - SG
A shooter with a quick release from the 3 point line and beyond. He knocked down 5 of 10 shots from beyond the arc and finished with 18 points on the night. He can create and get his shot off quickly and he has a quick release off the catch. He has no fear and range is not a question as he will let it fly from 25 feet.
Spencer McCloud - Argyle - 2013 - 6'5" - SF
The super athletic and bouncy wing will be heading off to college as a state champion in the high jump and track athlete, but his activity on the boards and up and down the court play is vital to the Eagles success. He chipped in 11 points and grabbed rebounds throughout the game while also working as a defender on Ranchview's top scoring threats.
Player to Watch:
Rodney Hinkle - Ranchview - 2015 - 6'4" - PF/C
He is a solid built paint player with long arms and an active body. He knocked down a couple of mid-range jumpers and grabbed loose rebounds in the lane. He doesn't get many touches but could really develop over the next couple of years with some strength and experience.
