Wyatt Explains Commitment to SMU
Jordan Severt have his pledge to the SMU coaching staff around 2PM. The day got even better Friday night when Wylie East defensive back Jordan Wyatt.Friday turned into a very good day for the Mustangs. It started when Austin Westlake quarterback
"I called coach Mason and committed to SMU after my 7-on-7 tournament ended," said Wyatt. "I felt like SMU was the right choice for me so I just pulled the trigger. I knew they would full up quick so I wanted to be sure to have my spot."
Defensive coordinator Tom Mason has been recruiting the local defender for a few months. In that time the two have grown close.
"Coach Mason and I have had a great relationship from the start. I made an unofficial to the campus on June 2nd and we became really close then. We have been in pretty constant contact since then."
At Wylie East the 6-foot, 180-pound prospect plays safety. It's not clear if that is where he will be playing on the Hilltop just yet.
"I know that they want me to play either corner or safety. It really doesn't matter to me, as long as I am in the defensive backfield I don't care if its safety or corner."
The visit that Wyatt made to the Hilltop on early June is the only time that he has been on the campus. That was all the Texas product needed, however.
"It's a very nice campus and it's also a great education. My favorite part about the campus is their dorms. They are really nice and big. I loved everything I saw about the campus."
Wyatt also holds offers from Air Force, Iowa State, and Navy to go along with the offer he has from the Mustangs. He has also camped at a few schools around the area.
"I went to the Oklahoma State camp on June 8th and the Texas Tech camp on June 10th. Both of those schools have been talking to my high school coach and say they have interest. They are just waiting and want to evaluate me more."
Even with the interest from the other schools Wyatt says that he is a solid commitment for the Mustangs. That doesn't mean that he isn't listening to other schools.
"I am open to what other schools have to say but I am happy with my commitment to SMU. So they can talk to me but it will be hard to get me away."
At the moment Wyatt has no other visits planned in the near future.
