Malone chooses LSU

Australia has proven to be an asset for the LSU football program and now the Tigers are getting a boost to their basketball program from the land down under.

LSU's consensus Top 10-ranked basketball recruiting class had one glaring hole to fill following a successful fall signing and Thursday the Tigers took a big step toward addressing that need with a commitment from 7-foot center Darcy Malone of Canberra, Australia.

Malone's former club team - ACT Academy of Sports - sent on a congratulatory tweet Wednesday just over a week after Malone made an official visit to LSU.

"Congrats to ACTAS basketball graduate Darcy Malone, who today committed to a scholarship with Louisiana State University (LSU) basketball."

Malone, who weighs 220 pounds, is expected to sign during the NCAA's late signing period in April, joining previous signees Jarell Martin, Tim Quarterman, Jordan Mickey and John Odo, who is already in school and practicing with the team.

Malone was a member of Australia's FIBA U-17 team that also has two players - Ben Simmons and Dante Exum - that are currently being recruited by LSU assistant and Australia native David Patrick. He was also part of Australia's U17 World Championship team that claimed a silver medal.
