Trinity Tightens District Race vs Heritage

Euless Trinity 61 Colleyville Heritage 48

Trinity road the wave of emotion from a vocal fan base and pressure half-court defense to avenge a first round district loss at Heritage. Heritage came into the game with the district lead and a perfect 7-0 record. Trinity was in a battle for 2nd place and was riding a 5 game win streak since starting district 0-2, including a loss at Heritage.

Trinity jumped out to an early 11-5 lead behind the intimidating defense of 6-10 junior Myles Turner. Heritage couldn't finish at the rim as he swatted away three first quarter shots and cold perimeter shooting allowed Trinity to take a lead they would never give up. A buzzer-beating three pointer by senior Mike Udume expanded the Trojan lead to 27-16 at the half and the lead stayed in double digits for most of the 2nd half.

Top Performers:

Myles Turner - Euless Trinity -- 2014 - 6'10" - Post

The big man controlled the paint defensively from the opening tip. His four blocked shots in the first 10 minutes discouraged and intimidated drives to the lane. He caused travels, bad shots and kick-outs for the rest of the game. He has added weight and strength since last season and his mobility seems to be smoother and easier.

He catches the ball and finishes high, is a quick finisher off the offensive boards and will work for position on the block. He got behind the press and finished with some impressive on the move dunks that sent the crowd into a frenzy. His overall offensive game stills needs some polishing but he has good hands and feet that will serve him well in the growth of his scoring game.

His upside and potential is through the roof and he has a chance to establish himself as a top 5 player in the class and is in the mix as the top big man in the state in 2014. He finished the night with 13 points on 5-7 FGs, 8 rebounds, 6 blocked shots and made some nice passes and reads of the defense on catches at the block and high post.

Colten Gober - Colleyville Heritage - 2013 - 5'11" - Point/Scoring Guard

The scoring/point guard was called on to do just about everything in this contest. He was shouldering the load as top scorer which meant he was hounded from the opening tip by in-your-face defense. And he was in charge of creating and distributing to teammates. He did both with a toughness and competiveness that kept the game in reach.

He was never left open for a good look but managed to work for 20 points (7-17 FGs) with drives to the rim, back-cuts and constant off the ball movement. He created with strong drives to the hole and found the open shooter when the paint was shut down by the big man.

His all-around game has improved to the point that he can't be found just hanging at the 3 point line knocking down 3's..which he still does very well. He handles it against pressure, works his way to the rim and makes his teammates better. He deserves looks this spring as a top unsigned senior point guard who can step in and with hard work contribute at the division 1 level.

Mike Udume - Euless Trinity - 2013 - 6'2" - Guard/Wing

This unsigned senior stepped up his game and showed that he can play on the big stage as well. He was in charge of chasing Gober all night but also produced big buckets at the offensive end. He is a very quick, fast and athletic guard who can move his feet and showed a competitive spirit on defense.

He has a smooth mid-range jumper with a 3-point range, can attack the rim and showed an overall athleticism that can translate to the college level. He finished the night as Trinity's top scorer with 16 points while also taking on the top defensive role on the perimeter.

Adrian Wong - Euless Trinity - 2014 - 6'2" - Point Guard

A steady and solid-built point guard who isn't flashy but makes sound decisions and knocks down shots. He scored an efficient 13 points on 5-6 shooting including a perfect 2 of 2 from the 3-point arc. He keeps his teammates involved while handling the ball against pressure and showing a calmness and steadiness throughout the game.

He won't wow you with his any particular part of his game but he shows up, does his job well and leads the team as a floor leader with few mistakes. He has the body to get on the boards and chases down loose rebounds. He is a good passer, finds the open man and is a solid defender.

His game will catch the eye of college coaches who follow him closely as his smart and steady play will grow on any coach looking for a floor leader.
