Boys & Girls Barbeque Wings

BAYSIDE, NY - On Wednesday night, there was a 'must see' game between Brooklyn and the Bronx as players from two PSAL schools, Wings Academy and Boys & Girls HS butted heads at the Beacon Back-to-School Tournament.

If styles makes fights and both teams have the similar styles, this game would come down to who executed the best. On this occasion, Brooklyn would come out on top as Wings was sent home with a 51-44 loss.

With chaos from the opening tip-off, both Wings and "The High" initiated full-court pressure with traps on each other. Boys & Girls would draw first blood as guards Bryce Jones (7 points) and Wesley Myers (4 points) put them up, 5-0 quick, fast and in a hurry.

Sharpshooter Marv Berroa (10 points) would put Wings on the map but Leroy Fludd (16 points) would penetrate and give Boys & Girls a 13-5 lead with 15:39 left in the half.

The pace remained up-tempo as Justin Jenkins (15 points) and Steven Gomez (10 points) joined the fray in an attempt to pull Wings closer. Jenkins and Berroa began to find success late in the half and cut Boys & Girls lead to 25-23 to start the second half.

Forward Shakur Pinder would extend Boys & Girls lead as would a trey by their newly acquired point guard Tyliek Kimbrough (9 points). Wings tried to slow down the temp and look for good shot but while they were looking, Fludd and Jones found them and with 7:03 left to play were up by 10 points.

A no-look pass from Fludd to 6'5" freshman Marvin Prochet (2 points) and Wings was soon down, 43-31.

Jenkins increased his offensive intensity as the hour glass was beginning to empty. A basket by Joe Mbisike (6 points) with 4:24 and Wings had suddenly cut their deficit in half.

Wings was gaining momentum and almost cut the lead to 4 points but a turnover and loss of focus would enable Boys & Girls to push the lead back to eight with 3:03 on the clock.

As time wound down, Kimbrough did a pretty good job at protecting the rock, working the clock and ultimately securing the win in a game that Wings never led.
