What does KU offer mean to Frankamp?

Conner Frankamp received some unexpected news on Thursday. While on an unofficial visit to Kansas, the four-star point guard from Wichita (KS) North High School received a scholarship offer from head coach Bill Self.

"Everything was amazing," said Frankamp, the No. 65 ranked player in the 2013 class. "The first time I visited Kansas, I didn't get to see the whole place. When I went up yesterday, I got to see Coach Self's office, the locker room, the gym and everything. The facilities at Kansas just amaze me.

"It's just first-class," he added. "Both of my parents went with me on the visit. We had planned to visit earlier, but something came up. I was already up in Kansas City for practice with Pump 'N Run, so we just decided to go up this week."

Coming off a sophomore season in which he averaged 27.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.2 blocks per game, Frankamp, prior to Thursdays visit to Kansas, had received just one scholarship offer. C

entral Michigan was the first Division I program to extend an offer to the native of Wichita, Kan.

However, that all changed following a meeting with Bill Self on Thursday.

"We just went up to Coach Self's office and talked," said Frankamp. "That's when Coach Self offered me a scholarship. I was pretty surprised when he offered and I was in awe, because it's pretty cool to be offered by Kansas. I was pretty happy when Coach Self offered. Yes, I was trying to hold back my emotions on the inside.

"I think my dad might have had a little idea of what was going to happen during the visit, but once Kansas offered, I think he was a little surprised," he added. "On the drive home, we (family) were still in awe with what happened. It really was a great day for us."

Frankamp, having recently returned to the states following a trip to Cancan with the USA 16U team, isn't ready to close the book on his recruitment just yet. With offers from Kansas and Central Michigan, along with interest from Boston College, Creighton, Kansas State, Missouri, Oklahoma, UCLA and Wichita State, Frankamp, with more offers coming, will have plenty of options to consider.

Still, saying no to Self and the Jayhawks might not be an option for Frankamp. The No. 13 ranked point guard in the class might not be ready to decide at this time, but a decision might come sooner than originally expected.

Clearly, Frankamp left Lawrence with not only a scholarship offer from Kansas, but something to think about. Until the time comes for a decision to be made, Frankamp will continue to focus all of his attention on basketball.

While in Cancan, Team USA (16U) finished with a perfect 5-0 record, and captured a Gold Medal. Frankamp, against Costa Rica, scored a team-high 22 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the field. In 19 minutes of action, he connected on 2-of-5 shots from downtown, dished out nine assists, had two steals and just two turnovers.

According to Frankamp, he's playing the best ball of his career.

"I feel that I'm probably playing the best I've played," he said. "I feel like I'm getting a lot stronger, a lot faster and I think that's helping me out a lot. I also think that I'm growing a little bit, too. I've been shooting the ball really well, but I think most people see me as a two guard.

"I think that I'm mostly a point guard," he added. "I think that I pass just as good as I shoot. I mostly play point, but I think that I've been shooting pretty good lately."
