Newell visits Nebraska again

Hiawatha, Kansas defensive end Peyton Newell had already been to Nebraska a handful of times over the past year.

However, there were still a few things that he really wanted to see and do in Lincoln. According to Newell, this weekend's Junior Day provided him and his father the opportunity to get that done.

"Everything went really well," Newell said about Nebraska's Junior Day. "I think that was at least my third time there but it was really good just to see some stuff that we haven't been able to see yet.

"The main thing was the dorms. They are apartment style dorms which are very nice. That's one of the main reason we went was just to see things we haven't been able to yet."

The 6-foot-3, 280-pound Newel said he was also able to spend some quality time with the Nebraska coaches including defensive line coach Rick Kaczenski.

"I got to spend most of the day was Coach Kaczenski the d-line coach," Newell said. "I also got to spend some time with the defensive coordinator and also coach Pelini.

"I feel like I was able to build a better relationship with him and get to know them better. Coach Kaczenski, I can tell that he really cares for me. We've already had a great relationship and it was good to spend more time with him. I really like the way that he coaches and what he teaches as far as technique."

If the Huskers are able to land Newell, who already has well over 20 offers, they plan to use him in a variety of ways along the defensive line.

"They definitely like me along the defensive line," Newell said. "Coach K runs a 3-4 and he likes to be able to switch the line up so I would be playing any position along the d-line if I go there."

Newell said he does not really have any favorites at this time and he probably won't start to narrow things down until well after this spring since new offers will surely be coming.

As far as visits go, Newel and his father will travel to South Carolina this coming weekend before taking some time off from recruiting for a while.

"The only thing I have planned as of now is that me and my dad are heading out to South Carolina this weekend," Newell said.

"That's pretty much it as of now. I plan of waiting a while to narrow things down. I want to wait to see what all of my options are before I name any leaders or narrow it down at all."
