October 3, 2013The Mullen/Mitchell Jamboree comes to the Dallas metroplex this weekend, October 4-5 in the Lewisville, Plano area.
One team that will be on hand is Todd Neighbor's Angelina Roadrunners. The Roadrunners are looking to take a few more steps forward with three returning starters back, off their 16 win campaign a year ago.
Junior College's were able to step out on the court and conduct full practices this week. With little time under their belts, Neighbors is looking forward to the opportunity.
"There are a few things that we are looking forward to this weekend," said Neighbors. "We want exposure for our sophomores and to play against teams other than ourselves. I am excited to see where we are at this point. This also gives us an opportunity to build chemistry and a winning culture with our new players."
The returnees to the Roadrunner's squad are three starters, Donald Thomas, LeMon Gregory, and Quentin Ellis.
Neighbors is happy with what he has seen so far from these three, and the pieces that have been brought in to round out the team.
"Besides our three starters that we have back, we also have some nice transfers that we picked up, and other players that provide toughness and depth. We can play big when we have to, or we can play small. This is a very versatile team."
Angelina will play three games in a span of five hours starting Friday, 5pm at Hebron HS.
Here are some of the sophomores that Angelina will be showcasing to hundreds of recruiters from across the nation.
One of the newcomers to the Roadrunners squad is 6-foot-8 Dante Bachus, a transfer from Texas State. The long athletic Bachus is an interior player that has a solid body and scoring ability. along with Bachus in the middle is Gregory who is a Kentucky native. He is a post that is developing and scoring around the basket. Ellis is a strong, quick, heady point guard that lays physical. Thomas is a long wiry wing that can get to the rim with his 6-foot-6 frame. He is an active player that will play at both ends of the court. Playing a stretch four, is Derek Roscoe. He can really shoot it from the perimeter, and is adding strength. Rounding out the sophomores is Justin Dobbs. Dobbs is a 6-foot-3 shooting guard that transferred from Grambling. He has a good stroke and is a physical player.
