It was Lonnie McClanahan and Maurice Taylor who combined for 32 points off the bench to lead the Kilgore Rangers to their first round victory over Shelton State CC, 80-58. McClanahan shot 70% (7-10) from the field for 19 points. Qunton Upshur had a team high six rebounds to go along with his six points and four steals. Kilgore came out fast from the tip and took a 14 point lead at half 36-22.

Howard had an early lead on opponent Eastern Mississippi at half, 36-25. Cameron Forte helped build the Hawks lead with his 16 point first half performance. East made the game interesting down the stretch, but Howard had enough to finish the game with free-throws. Howard advances to the second round with a 63-54 win. Forte was held to just two second half points. Freshman, 7-footer Goran Huskic chipped in with a double-double for the Hawks, 10 points, 10 rebounds.

It was a race to a 100, as Lee moves on with a 104-97 victory against Hagerstown CC. Lee was paced by non-starter Jamal Jones and his 25 points, and Deng Deng's 20 point and 12 rebound night. Between the two teams, they combined to put up 158 shots, hitting 76. Lee was 39-73 (53.4%).
